The Official Barcelona City Site

Barcelona is the second largest town in Spain and the capital on the partly autonomous province of Catalonia on the northeastern part of Spain. Barcelona is an important economic center and an fascinating tourist resort.

Barcelona is a very old town. According to a legend it was founded some 400 years before Rome by Hercules. According to another more probable legend, a roman named Hamilcar Barca was the founder of this town. The old town was located where Placa de Sant Jaume now can be found.

Several million tourists visit Barcelona every year, looking at the masterpieces made by Antoni Gaudi, Picasso, Dali and Miro, just to mention the most importants.
