Erythema elevatum diutinum is very rare chronic skin disease causing typical red or brown papules on the back of the hands, buttocks, elbows and legs. This disease was first descibed by Hutchinson in 1888 and by Bury in the following year (and hence it is sometimes called Bury´s disease). It is a type of leukocytoclastic vasculitis the cause of which is unknown but it can be associated with rheumatologic or haematologic disorders or viral infections. A skin biopsy is needed for diagnosis. The disease can spontaneuously dissappear after 5 - 25 years.
